PRICE’S PERFECT PEP-UP

Wolves chief inspired by City

- By Julie Stott

PEP GUARDIOLA’S winning return to Premier League action has reignited the fire in Steve Price’s belly for live rugby.

The Warrington Wolves coach is a huge fan of Manchester City after spending time with Guardiola and his staff.

He’d love to get the Spaniard to attend a Wolves game – and make him their second high-profile football fan alongside former

City boss and

England legend

Stuart Pearce.

But, for now,

Price will be content with watching

Guardiola and City in action, while setting his own sights on a Super

League return.

Australian

Price, a former assistant coach at Cronulla

Sharks, said:

“I had an opportunity to meet Pep when I came here with Cronulla for the World Club Challenge a few years ago.

“He is a wonderful man and he let us spend a day with him and his staff seeing what we could learn.

“It’s always good to learn different techniques.

“He was very welcoming and I would like to catch up with Pep again, but I understand he is very busy.

“Growing up in Australia everyone used to idolise Craig Johnston because he was an Australian legend playing for Liverpool.

“He had the long locks and Predator boots that everyone tried to wear.

“But it wasn’t until I met Pep that I started to fully appreciate soccer, and now I love it.”

Pearce, an exthree Lions skipper, regularly bangs the drum for Super League and attends games frequently, despite a five-hour round trip from his home.

Price said:

“Stuart is a great ambassador for our club. He loves the brutality of rugby league and he has a huge amount of respect for our players.”

Confident

Football is now back in action, but

Super League clubs still don’t know when they will start – or even how many games will be included in a new shortened season.

Price added: “The players have been really diligent in lockdown, following their own hometraining programmes.

“I understand a few of them will have lost a bit of body mass

“But I am confident that when we can get back training they will be in the best shape that they can be.”
