Ruddock: Reds to do it in style
NEIL RUDDOCK has hailed championselect Liverpool as the great entertainers – and put the boot into their boring rivals.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are on course to end 30 years of title hurt at Anfield in the coming week – and could well be historymakers by the end of the campaign.
With 27 points still available, Liverpool, who resume their glorious season with a derby trip to bitter rivals Everton today, can finish up with a whopping, recordbreaking tally of 109.
And former Reds defender Ruddock believes they already deserve all the accolades and plaudits going for the manner in which they have gone about completing their Holy Grail.
Indeed, he reckons Klopp’s runaway leaders put the rest of the Premier League elite – Manchester City excluded – to shame when it comes to style and flair.
Ruddock, who made 115 league appearances for the Reds in the 90s, said: “When you watch Liverpool, you know you’re going to see a beautiful game of football.
“But when you watch Arsenal, Chelsea or Man United, you just don’t know whether it’s going to be any good or not.
“Liverpool, on the other hand, are so entertaining – they play football in the right way.”
Having spent five seasons at Liverpool from1992 to 1998, nobody needs to explain to Ruddock what lifting the Premier League for the first time means to the red half of Merseyside.
Despite their Champions League successes, including last year’s victory in the final over Tottenham, reclaiming their position at the summit of the English game has long been No.1 priority for Koppites.
As the realisation of that dream draws ever closer, Ruddock says it will be a huge morale-booster for every Liverpool fan after the torrid few months of lockdown.
The ex-southampton, West Ham and Tottenham hardman, 52, added: “Yes, it’s going to be amazing. It’s a breath of fresh air that they’re going to win it. It will lift everybody’s spirits.”
With inspirational German coach Klopp signing a new, long-term deal in December, which keeps him at the club until 2024, Ruddock senses a new era of all-conquering Liverpool dominance is under way.
“They are improving all the time. I think that they have only lost four games at home since Klopp’s been there,” warned Ruddock.
