Smart Alex is expert at Monopoly

- By Steve Bates

ALEX IWOBI has revealed his lockdown treat – playing Monopoly with his family.

While plenty of his team-mates binged on box sets and Netflix, Iwobi took to the games board.

And now he’s planning to buy the special Liverpool version, which features Goodison Park, Anfield, Aintree and other famous city sites.

Iwobi: said “I’m not a box-sets guy, to be honest. I was able to go home to London and isolate with my family.

“So I was interacting with them, having banter, playing ping-pong and Monopoly.

“I went on a few bike rides. I watched the odd film, but that’s it.

I’m decent at Monopoly, I know how to manipulate my friends!

“I might have to get the Liverpool version for when my mates come to visit and I can show them I’m a real Scouse lad!”

Former Arsenal star Iwobi is back in the real game today – and aiming for victory in the Merseyside derby at

Goodison to hold up Liverpool’s title charge.

Everton haven’t beaten Liverpool in the league for 10 years and attacking midfielder Iwobi, 24, had a similar, poor record before his £34million move from Arsenal.

But the Nigerian reckons it’s the perfect game after the shutdown.

“I’m ready to start the season and it is the best game to get us going because it’s a test against one of the best in the Premier League and a big derby,” he explained.

“We have to accept we don’t have a great record against them, but when it comes to playing Liverpool, everyone will put in the hard graft.”

Iwobi is fully behind the Black Lives Matter movement – and is happy to see teams taking the knee in support of anti-racism.

“It was good for me to see that support and good for the world to see,” he said. “It shows we are all one race. Football is a huge sport and can change people’s lives globally.

“Kids look up to us. They idolise what we do. If they see us saying ‘Black Lives Matter’, they will want to understand why we’re saying that.”
