Prince and the paedo: Pressure Ghislaine saw pal Andrew on TV and knew it was the beginning of the end

- By Patrick Hill

JEFFREY Epstein’s ex-lover Ghislaine Maxwell told pals Prince Andrew’s infamous Newsnight TV interview was “the beginning of the end”.

Laura Goldman, who has been friends with Maxwell for a number of years, says the socialite told her she thought the interview was “terrible” and would lead to her arrest – though she maintains her innocence.

Ms Goldman – who says she last spoke to Maxwell less than a month ago – also claims the daughter of disgraced media mogul Robert Maxwell repeatedly warned Andrew not to talk to the newspapers or TV.

And she told how Maxwell was not impressed by the Duke’s Newsnight interview with BBC presenter Emily Maitlis in November.

Speaking exclusively to the Sunday People, Ms Goldman said: “She thought it was terrible. That’s what she told me was the beginning of the end.

“She told him not to talk to the press. She told him it won’t do any good. But he ignored her.”

Secrets

Ms Goldman spoke out after the Maxwell, 58, was arrested on Thursday at her £860,000 US home in Bradford, New Hampshire.

She has been charged with sexual offences against three minors.

Maxwell is accused of procuring three underage girls for Epstein to have sex with between 1994 and 1997, and engaging in sexual activity with them herself, which she denies.

Maxwell has been a friend of Prince Andrew, 60, since the mid-90s.

She was said to have been around the night Epstein’s “teenage sex slave” Virginia Giuffre claims she had sex with the Duke of York at Ghislaine’s London mews house in March 2001.

Prince Andrew vehemently denies the claims and says he has “no recollection” of meeting Giuffre.

Ms Goldman, a former stockbroker in her early 60s, said: “Ghislaine and Andrew had a long relationship... and she knows a lot of Andrew’s secrets.

“She felt Prince Andrew had really saved her and stood by her after her father died and he had come to New York to help launch her in New York society. She was eternally grateful and would never ever betray him.

“I don’t think he could cut her off and I think there’s a lot more money between Andrew and Epstein than people know.”

Ms Goldman, who lives in Philadelphia, says Maxwell, who is now facing up to 35 years in jail if found
