Veteran: Prince turning his back on ex-military BLOW FOR SUICIDE CAMPAIGN

- By Aaron Sharp FEATURES EDITOR by Sean Rayment

A MILITARY hero who won the support of Prince Harry for his PTSD campaign has launched a withering attack on the royal.

But Trevor now believes the prince has lost his way since he and former screen star wife Meghan, 38, ditched Britain and the Royal Family for Hollywood.

Harry also gave up his official military appointments, including his role as Captain General of the Royal Marines.

Trevor was upset when Harry, 35, went online this week to say the Commonwealth of Nations – made up of states that were nearly all territories of the old British Empire and whose head is the Queen – should face up to its “uncomfortable past”.

The ex-royal Irish Regiment soldier of Woodbridge in Suffolk, said: “He’s turned into a complete idiot.

“His comments are disgusting and I for one am pleased he has left the UK.

“A lot of soldiers in the British Army are from the Commonwealth too.

“They fought alongside Harry and he should remember that. He’s having a dig at the Royal Family – his own family.

“He says he wants to be left alone to do his own thing but he’s constantly doing Zoom calls. He can’t have it both ways so he’s now classed as what I think is an attention seeker. Every time he speaks these days he loses support massively.

“We respect Harry for his service, for what he did in the past and setting up the Invictus Games for disabled veterans but all of that is being undone now.

“Every time he speaks and insults the

Queen, the Royal Family or has a go at the Commonwealth, all that support from all the years is slowly vanishing. It’s sad because he did good work.”

Pathetic

Trevor is also critical after the Duke of Sussex, patron of the Rugby Football Union, back the RFU’S review of the singing of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot at matches. The song was written in the veterans’ deaths. Over 200 veterans and serving troops have killed themselves since 2017, it is believed.

But the Government said this week the MOD has no plans to act.

Former Royal Marines Sergeantmajor Jeff Williams said: “I am truly shocked by this statement.” 1860s by Wallace Wallis who was a slave until he was freed after the American Civil War. The RFU said: “We need to do more to achieve diversity and we are determined to accelerate change and grow awareness.

“The song has long been part of the culture of rugby and is sung by many who have no awareness of its origins or sensitivities.

“We are reviewing its historical context and our role in educating fans.”

Rugby fan Harry has sung the anthem many times but a spokesman for the Sussexes said: “The Duke is supportive of the RFU comments and he will follow their lead on the matter.”

Trevor said: “This latest attack on the rugby song is absolutely pathetic. We’re sick to death of his behaviour.”

It is understood that the MOD wants to increase the size of the special forces by up to 300 personnel and give more funding to cyber units, such as 13th Signal Regiment launched last month.

One senior source said: “There are some very worrying conversations at the highest levels about cuts.

“It looks like the Paras will be cut as the Government concentrates on expanding special forces and cyber units.

“Our best hope is that we still have one battalion and retain control of the Special Forces Group.

“There is a feeling within the regiment that we have been living on borrowed time despite what we achieved in Afghanistan and Iraq.”

The Paras hope to convince the Government that they should be left alone because they supply more than 50 per cent of troops to the SAS.

An MOD spokesman said: “We’re in an early stage of our Integrated Review and no final plans have been drawn up.”
