German job too boring for Klopp, claims Didi

- EXCLUSIVE by Simon Mullock

DIDI HAMANN reckons Jurgen Klopp has too much unfinished business at Liverpool to be tempted to manage Germany.

Hamann, the former Reds midfielder who won 59 caps for his country, believes the Liverpool boss will eventually move into international football.

But, at the age 53, he feels

Klopp is so immersed in the dayto-day business of taking trophies back to Anfield that he will look to build a Merseyside dynasty first.

Hamann said: “I think it’s fair to say that when the Germany job becomes available it will belong to Jurgen if he wants it.

“He would be a popular choice because of what he achieved at Borussia Dortmund and for what he is now doing at Liverpool.

“To win the Champions League and the Premier League in successive seasons is an incredible achievement that confirms him as one of the world’s elite coaches.

“But Jurgen is still quite young. I think he thrives on working with players every single day. You can tell he loves it.

“I think he would be tempted by the chance to try international football at some stage – but that is still years away.

“Only being able to get on the training pitch once every three months would drive him absolutely crazy.”

Hamann, who spent seven years at Anfield and helped the Reds win the Champions League in 2005, added: “It’s clear that Klopp feels at home at Liverpool – and that’s important to him.

“He has a very strong connection to the club, the fans and the city itself.

“What he has done so far has been incredible, but he will look at it and believe that this is just the beginning.”

Hamann added: “Jurgen will already be remembered as one of Liverpool’s greatest ever managers – but he can go on to create something that will compare him with the likes of Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley.”
