ANGUISHED families of thousands of British murder victims are still waiting for justice decades after their loved ones’ lives were cruelly ended.

New research shows there are more than 2,600 unsolved killings across the country, condemning heartbroken relatives to a lifetime of uncertainty and frustration.

The shocking figures were collated from police forces across the UK by private detective Mark Williams-thomas.

And the former police officer believes his investigations into the most chilling cold cases show there are likely to be several serial killers who have slipped under the radar over the years – and literally got away with murder.

He said: “Given the number of unsolved murders out there it’s very likely. What we know about serial killers is often they kill and there are then years before further killings.”

Mark wants to see more police action to crack the backlog of horrific unsolved crimes.

He said: “There has to be a national database. There has to be ministerial involvement.

“And we need to provide a cost for analysis at the policing school to look at some of these past murders

SHOCKED: Ex-police officer Mark and see if they can be linked. Come on, you owe it to the victims’ families.”

Mark has been seen close-up the effect of murder on relatives. He said: “It stays with them forever and impacts on every element of their lives.

“Over time the pain becomes worse. I talk to parents a lot who, in their later years, become desperate for answers.

“Their fear is they will leave the planet not knowing what happened to their daughters or sons.”

Here, we take a look at five appalling unsolved murder cases – and one that was closed only by the killer himself after

he had died.
