WE CAN BEAT MY TREBLE’

-

Cologne for their Europa League quarter-final against FC Copenhagen tomorrow.

And Solskjaer can’t hide his determination to win the tournament.

He said: “I would never talk of it being about me because that isn’t who I am. But of course I am ambitious and one of my dreams is to lift the trophy as a manager for this club.

“That would be the proudest moment of my football life.

“I owe my football career to this club so to lift a trophy as a manager here would be the biggest achievement in my career.

“I was part of a fantastic team. Sometimes you just ride a wave on the sea you are in.

“That team I was in, they carried me. You know Roy Keane would say his back was sore because he carried me!

“And he is probably right. I contributed as well as I could, I was always ready for the team and the club.

“So if I could lift a trophy as manager, that would be the proudest moment of my career.”

Even though United are already qualified for the Champions League, Solskjaer believes winning the Europa League would accelerate the education of his stars.

“Winning trophies makes you think, ‘I want more of this’. And that means more dedication, more focus to think, ‘this is what I wanted’.

“Some players may say to themselves, ‘I can rest on my laurels because I have won something’.

“But looking at this group it would mean what we are doing now is working. It’s all in their hands.

“They know they’re at Man United, and they know we have the resources to build.”
