City could bring Mart Inter replace Aguero

- By John Richardson

LAUTARO MARTINEZ has been called the natural successor to legendary Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

Former Manchester United star Owen Hargreaves believes the 22-year-old is the answer to City’s prayers as they search for a player who can fill Aguero’s goalden boots.

“I know Manchester City are looking for a replacement for Sergio Aguero – Martinez is your guy,”said Hargreaves. “He’s got everything, he’s skilful and a lethal finisher.

“Whether he ends up at City or

Barcelona, what is certain is that they will have secured a very special player.”

City will have to hurry as the £100millionrated Inter Milan hitman (above) is on a shortlist to replace Luis Suarez at Barcelona and Karim Benzema at Real Madrid.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also a confirmed admirer.

Martinez’s future could depend on what happens to Inter boss Antonio Conte whose job at the San Siro has surprisingly come under focus. Ex-juventus manager Max Allegri is reportedly waiting in the wings.

Martinez, who joined Inter two years ago, has formed a goalscoring alliance with former United striker Romelu Lukaku.

Trust

Martinez said: “I’ll always be thankful to Conte because as soon as he arrived at Inter he called me when I was on holiday after playing for Argentina in the Copa America. He trusts me and has helped me grow.”

San Siro CEO Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that talks over a new contract are about to begin. He insisted: “We’ll proceed calmly. We know Lautaro loves wearing the Inter shirt and we are happy to have him.”

But former Inter president Massimo Moratti said: “You can never hold someone who has the idea of wanting to be somewhere else.”
