Stingy Gers make history

-

RANGERS set a new earlyseason shut-out record as the injury-hit Scottish Premiership leaders put Dundee United to the sword in a 4-0 win.

Steven Gerrard’s side collected their seventh clean sheet in their first seven league games – but entering the record books came at a heavy price.

The Gers lost four players to injury – Leon Balogun dropping out shortly before kick-off with Ryan Jack, Brandon

Barker and Alfredo Morelos following him during the match.

Despite the injury woes, Rangers beat Celtic’s 114-year-old record for the number of clean sheets from the start of a campaign.

They coasted ed home as Ryan n Kent opened th the scoring early before skipper James Tavernier struck on his 250th appearance for the club.

Kemar Roofe and Scott Arfield rounded off the scoring midway through the second half but Gerrard will be left sweating on the quartet, who all had to be replaced.

And he was fuming with the challenge that saw Colombian striker Morelos carried off following a horror tackle from Dundee United’s Ryan Edwards.

“There’s obviously a follow through there, I don’t want to stand here and say a kid should be sent off, of course I don’t,” said Gerrard, who hopes to bolster his squad by signing Preston midfielder Daniel Johnson.

“What would be interesting is if it was the other way around, what the decision would have been.”

CELTIC thrashed ROSS COUNTY 5-0 to stay in touch at the top.

Striker Albian Ajeti marked his first start by adding to

Odsonne Edouard’s early penalty opener.

Secondhalf goals f from Shane Du Duffy, fellow cent centre-back Kristoffe Kristoffer Ajer, and substitute Patryk Klimala completed Celtic’s biggest win of the season.

Boss Neil Lennon

(above, with Shane Duffy and Scott Brown) said: “I thought first half we were a little bit off it, which was to be expected with a few changes and different system. As the game went on we looked far more powerful.

“Our goalkeeper, Vasilis Barkas, made some great saves as well – which is something we’ll have to look at – but I’m delighted for him and it was an all-round good team performance in the end.”

Ross Mccrorie’s first goal for ABERDEEN extended their winning run to four games with a 1-0 win over KILMARNOCK.

In one of the first test events for fans, with 300 allowed in, Mccrorie claimed Aberdeen’s firsthalf winner at Pittodrie.
