Knight to remember

- By NEIL GOULDING at John Smith’s Stadium

LEICESTER loanee Josh Knight boosted basement boys Wycombe’s survival hopes with a comeback win at Huddersfield.

The defender’s goal secured the win late on as the Chairboys bravely fought back from 2-0 down to triumph on their travels.

Victory saw Gareth Ainsworth’s battling side claim their first away league win since the start of November – although they remain 10 points adrift of safety.

“The boys were superb,” said Ainsworth. “I’m really proud of the boys.

“It’s been a really tough month but we proved that we can compete, it’s just about doing it consistently.”

Juninho Bacuna’s 18th-minute headed opener and Belgian forward Isaac

Mbenza’s first goal for two months put the Terriers on top.

But Anis Mehmeti pulled a goal back in the third minute of injury-time and skipper Joe Jacobson netted from the spot after Jonathan Hogg had bundled over Uche Ikpeazu.

And there was a real sting in the tail when Knight pounced to win it at the death with a clinical finish.

“It was an awful game, more than a disaster,” said Terriers boss Carlos Corberan.

“We lacked confidence, doubts set in and we are in a relegation battle now.”

Bacuna gave the Terriers the perfect start when he headed in Fraizer Campbell’s cross and Mbenza doubled lead four minutes before the break with a sweet leftfoot finish.

Mehmeti gave the Chairboys a lifeline when he smashed home in first-half injury time. Jacobson levelled from the spot just after the hour mark and Knight kept his cool to win it with a brilliant finish with just two minutes left on the clock.
