Mick’s men give Moore

- By GRAHAM THOMAS at the Cardiff City Stadium

KIEFFER MOORE is already a folk hero to Wales fans – but now his legend is extending into the living rooms of Cardiff supporters.

The 6ft 5in striker, who will spearhead Welsh hopes at the Euros this summer, has transformed his club’s season in the space of five games.

Two predatory goals against Coventry means Moore has now scored five in as many games and he already has 15 for the season.

That tally, together with the common sense of new boss Mick Mccarthy, have radically altered the outlook for the Bluebirds who have gone from facing relegation to play-off hopefuls in the space of five unbeaten matches.

When Mccarthy replaced Neil Harris, Cardiff were 15th in the table and 13 points shy of the play-offs. They are now seventh, just points behind sixth place.

Mccarthy and Moore go back a long way. It was Mccarthy who saw a rough diamond playing for Forest

Green Rovers and took him to Ipswich.

“He was pretty raw when I took a chance on him for £20,000,” said Mccarthy.

“Kieffer is getting his goals and he’s mixing it up.

“He’s bought into everything with everyone who has tried to help him and he’s just progressed.

“He will go the Euros with Wales this summer and he deserves everything that comes his way.

“I am very pleased, three wins on the bounce is great in this league.”

Coventry needed to be at their most disciplined to cope with Moore in this mood, but they were lax to the point of negligent.

They gave him too much space for his first goal after he was played in by the rejuvenated Josh Murphy, although it still needed a classy swivel inside Leo Ostigard before an emphatic finish.

Moore showed similar decisiveness for his second goal, although Coventry goalkeeper Marko Marosi’s weak punch in the build-up was unforgivable.

By the time Murphy swept in the third goal the game was beyond the visitors, although Dominic Hyam pulled one back with 12 minutes to go.

Coventry boss Mark Robins said: “It was the poorest performance of the season. We didn’t show our ability to fight against a team that fights.

“We have to fight and scrap and create chances.”
