Will it be a fright at the Oprah?

-

DESPITE all the acrimony of the past 12 months part of me wondered whether Prince William and his brother Harry might be able to sort out their differences.

A royal source told me recently that the two have been in touch again “united by a mutual desire to protect their mother’s legacy.”

They both want to get to the bottom of that notorious Panorama interview and find out whether Diana was misled or tricked into giving it.

And they have been consulting on plans for a statue of the Princess which they’re due to unveil in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace on July 1.

I really thought we might see the two princes walking side by side to the spot where they used to play as Diana watched over them.

But now that Harry and Meghan have quit the Firm for good, any reunion will be merely cosmetic.

In Friday’s official announcements The Queen insisted they “remain much loved members of the family”.

But the Sussexes appear to have given the Windsors an almighty “up yours” by insisting: “We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.”

Next month the publicity-shy Sussexes will sit on Oprah Winfrey’s sofa and tell millions of people how misunderstood they are.

And, as Oprah has been told she can ask anything, we can expect plenty of questions about Princess Diana and what Harry has got planned for that Netflix documentary about his mother.

His answers will decide whether William and Harry can ever tread the same path again.
