IPSWICH manager Paul Lambert thought his team deserved to win in the home draw with Oxford.

Lambert (below) said: “I was really encouraged by the performance. I thought we had so many good chances to score. I thought we deserved a bit more than what we got, on another day I think we win. I thought we played a good game, we had so many chances to win. We hit the post, Troy Parrott had a few chances, James Norwood had chances, the fight was really encouraging.

“I thought we dominated long spells, the chances we had were really pleasing. We keep on fighting.”

Oxford boss Karl Robinson said: “We know we can play better, we have played better.”

MARK MOLESLEY was left ruing a “freak moment”.

Shaun Miller (below) secured victory for the visitors after keeper Mark Oxley failed to deal with a high ball inside the six-yard box.

“I last saw a goal like that 12 or 14 years ago, it’s held up in the wind and hit the back of the crossbar before somehow spinning back round,” said Molesley. “It’s a real freak moment.”

Bolton boss Ian Evatt said:

“It’s a good win but we won’t be resting on our laurels.”

European Round-up

AMIN YOUNES inpired EINTRACHT FRANKFURT to a 2-1 win over Bundesliga leaders BAYERN MUNICH yesterday.

Frankfurt remain on course for a Champions League spot after Younes scored one and created another for Daichi Kamada as the hosts stretched their unbeaten run to 11 games.

Bayern hit back via Robert Lewandowski’s 26th goal of the season but Frankfurt held on in front of national boss Joachim

Low. While Hansi Flick led Bayern to victory in the FIFA Club World Cup, his side have underwhelmed since returning to domestic duties.

And second-placed RB LEIPZIG will be out to take full advantage of Bayern’s slip-up and close the gap to two points by beating HERTHA BERLIN today.

In Serie A, LAZIO boosted their push for a Champions League by earning a 1-0 win over SAMPDORIA.

Luis Alberto’s first-half strike proved the difference.

RIYAD MAHREZ

His stunning goal against Everton in midweek was yet another reminder of the depth in Pep Guardiola’s squad — the reason no one will catch them in the title race this season.

MOEEN ALI

Finds himself £700,000 richer after Chennai Super Kings snapped him up in the IPL auction. Jonny Bairstow is right, no one can afford to turn the league down.

ERLING HAALAND

Two more Champions League goals took his tally in the tournament to 18 in 13 games. No wonder Manchester City lead the chase for his signature this summer.

AUBAMEYANG

The striker might have a tattoo artist in his support bubble but his display in the Europa League on Thursday suggested he should have moved a finishing coach in too.

PAUL LAMBERT

The Ipswich boss has always known how to give it out but he went running straight to teacher, in this case Mike Riley, of the Darren Drysdalealan judge incident. Poor.

DAYOT UPAMECANO

His performance against Liverpool for RB Leipzig on Tuesday will have had those Premier League clubs who were in for him thrilled that he’s opted to join Bayern Munich.
