AN elderly couple hit with a £2,000 parking bill have been celebrating after the fine was quashed, thanks to the Sunday People.

John and Libby Babbage were pursued by debt collectors and faced being taken to court after four £100 tickets were sent to an address that didn’t exist.

The ordeal began after retired businessman John, 75, overstayed his welcome in a Mcdonald’s car park in their home town of Luton, Beds, after taking his grandson for a Happy Meal four years ago.

The pensioners didn’t realise they were being chased for more than £2,000 in fines and legal costs until bailiffs finally tracked them down.

Now parking firm bosses have agreed to cancel the bill after the couple’s case was taken up by the People.

Libby, 71, said: “It’s brilliant news.”

A MAN has appeared in court charged with murder after a double stabbing.

He is also charged with the attempted murder of a 46-year-old woman, who sustained neck and leg wounds. She remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Willden was remanded in custody by Leamington magistrates yesterday.
