20 wins in a row and now – as if they aren’t good enough – City want £100M Haaland

MANCHESTER CITY are laughing all the way to the title after stretching their winning run to 20 games AND planning a summer swoop for £100m-rated Erling Haaland.

Pep Guardiola claimed yesterday’s clinching of the 20-game record is one of his “greatest achievements” as City boss – but he still wants another striker.

REFEREE Lee Mason was accused of losing control after he was at the centre of an extraordinary decision, which was branded ‘embarrassing and horrendous’.

The official sparked chaos at the Hawthorns after Lewis Dunk thought he had equalised for Brighton when he fired past West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone with a quickly-taken set-piece.

Mason initially ruled out the goal but then, after being surrounded by visiting players, awarded it.

Appearing to not know whether he had blown his whistle for a freekick to be taken, he then consulted the pitchside monitor before reversing his decision again.

Dunk said: “It’s embarrassing. It’s an horrendous decision. I said to the ref, ‘Can I take it?’ He blew his whistle and I took it.

“Just because you’ve got so much pressure from the bench and the players, you cannot disallow the goal. VAR don’t know what he said.

“I don’t think he knew what he was doing. I don’t know how VAR got involved because he said the words to go and take the free-kick.”

When asked if Mason had lost control of the game, Dunk replied: “Yeah, he did. Fact.”
