LOCALS want to sink £300 , 000 into buying a village pub from £148million lottery winner Adrian Bayford.

The Grade Ii-listed Rose and Crown is the last remaining boozer in the Essex hamlet of Ashdon, population 893.

It has been shut since July, there is little sign of activity and villagers fear it may not reopen at all after lockdown.

Meanwhile, Adrian – who scooped his monster Euromillions prize in 2012 – has moved 430 miles away to a Perthshire mansion. Ashdon parish council vice chairman Philip Player said he would welcome a community bid for the pub.

He added: “We’d like to take it over as a village hub as we are looking to try to replace the shop, which we lost a number of years ago. There’s no garage, no shop and now no pub. We are trying our best to bring the village back into life.”

Locals reckon the pub will go for around £300,000. One said: “It was really well supported so it needs to reopen when lockdown is over.

We can all come together to buy it, or there are one or two in the village who have a load of money so they might buy it.” Parish chairman Mike Elsey said the pub will be discussed at the end of the month, adding: “It’s going on the market. That is all we know.”

Ex-postie Mr Bayford, 49, won Euromillions with his Scottish wife Gillian, 48. The couple later split and he moved to be near his two children.

Mr Bayford refused to comment on the pub.

HAVING jumped immediately from 41 exhausting episodes of Married At First Sight Australia on E4 to Love Island Australia, preening itself nightly on ITV2, I think I’m having an identity crisis.

I’m so immersed in endless hours of Australian unreality that my family’s English accents are starting to sound odd and I’m thinking of moving to the Gold Coast. Monday’s MAFS reunion finale was nothing short of spectacular, as two-timing

Jessika got a very public comeuppance. She would have been better off on Love Island, where swapping partners is a totally acceptable daily activity.

The vain 20-somethings – including Cartier, who “loves Jesus” but also “anyone rugged”, ditzy waitress Jessie, left, and man-mountain Eoghan – must be dizzy with all the head-turning.

Am I proud to commit so many hours to such vacuous reality trash? No.

Will I watch to the end? Great blady galah, I will.

Our ‘surge capacity’ to deal with stress has been diminished by the pandemic – leading to feeling burnt out, recent studies have shown.

“Accepting that will go a long way towards relieving the pressure we may have placed on ourselves,” says Kirsty Lilley, mental health specialist at CABA, the wellbeing charity. “It’s important to recognise that we are living through a pandemic, something none of us have ever had to navigate before. This in itself is difficult enough, so be wary of layering additional and unnecessary stress on yourself.”

Incorporate breathing exercises and mindfulness into your daily routine can go a long way to help.

“We should never be afraid to be assertive or push back on additional work,” says Kirsty.

“Many of us have too much on our to-do lists, too much responsibility and, crucially, not enough time to decompress. Maintaining an open dialogue with those around you will ensure they know what’s keeping you busy and could even offer support.”
