TV hits are really Bad

- By David Jarvis

NEARLY half of viewers think crime drama Breaking Bad is the most over-hyped and unrealistic TV show.

One complained the chemistry teacher turned drug dealer played by Bryan Cranston was “nothing like my chemistry teacher”.

Some 27% also said comedy classic Friends was overrated. One viewer was upset Matt Leblanc’s character Joey ate all the time but never got fat, saying: “How come Joey isn’t more tubby? Too unrealistic.”

And 21% think gangland drama Peaky Blinders isn’t as good as the critics claim – saying it is boring and has comically bad accents.

One viewer said: “The rubbish Brummie accents make me laugh when someone is being killed, which I don’t think is the idea.”

And some 28% polled by shopping site onbuy.com said The Crown was confusing as they don’t know which bits are made up.

Onbuy.com’s Cas Paton said: “While critics can offer a new series instant credibility, they can also produce hype that results in disappointment.”

HARD to say whether Luxury Holidays: How To Get Away This Year on C4 on Thursday was a dose of optimism or a kick in the teeth.

As someone who has regularly booked – and cancelled – trips all year (because, yes, I’m a complete idiot who lived in hope) is now the time to go for it before everything fills up?

Or will Boris’s roadmap leave us all wishing he’d bought a satnav or asked for directions?

Sabrina Grant told us the tips, tricks and pitfalls of trying to book a break, looked at Covid cover and the list of countries that might let us in. So far, it looks like we’re all off to Romania.

But good ideas on staycations included wine tasting in Kent and cruising in Scotland.

I just wouldn’t pack your suitcase quite yet…
