KAMALA HARRIS

First woman VP of United States

-

Kamala Harris is the highest-ranking woman in the history of the American Government and the first black female Vice President.

The 56-year-old, whose parents emigrated from India and Jamaica, specialised in prosecuting child sexual assault cases in the 90s and rose to District Attorney of San Francisco in 2003. On being chosen as President Joe Biden’s VP, she he said: “What a testament to

Joe’s character that he had the audacity to break one one of the most substantial barriers in our country and select a woman as his Vice

President. I may be the first but I won’t be the last. “

Former cashier Melanie is the mother of footballer and campaigner Marcus Rashford, who won a battle against the Tory Government to have the free school meal voucher scheme extended for around 1.3 million children in England last summer.

Marcus, 23, who had free school meals growing up in Wythenshawe, Manchester, prompted the Government to make a U-turn and was subsequently made an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list. But the Man Utd striker attributes all of his incredible success to his mum Melanie.
