His nephew failed to convince Asa that bottles would increase sales and the company stuck to selling it from fountain machines. Despite candy store owner Joseph Biedenharn bottling the drink himself, Asa was so convinced bottling wouldn’t make money that he sold the rights for a dollar to two brothers from Chattanooga.
