£19m win for Floyds

Arts lover bares ass

THE family of George Floyd, whose death at the hands of police sparked global protests, say the £19million they have received in compensation sends a “powerful message that black lives matter”.

The family had sued the city council who employed the cops involved in 46year-old Floyd’s arrest in Minneapolis, US, last May.

One officer, Derek Chauvin, was videoed kneeling on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes, despite his protests that he could not breathe.

Family lawyer Ben Crump said the out-ofcourt settlement – the biggest in Minnesota state history – showed that “black lives do matter and police brutality against people of colour must end”.

Chauvin, 46, sacked after Floyd’s death, went on trial this week for murder.

Three others will be tried for aiding and abetting.

A FRENCH actress has stripped to protest about the lack of support for the arts during the pandemic.

Corinne Masiero, 57, attended the César Awards in a donkey costume over a blood-stained dress, which she then removed.

She had written “No culture, no future” across her breasts, and “Give us back art, Jean” on her back, appealing to French Prime Minister, Jean Castex.

Masiero was on stage at the French equivalent of the Oscars to present an award. Other actors and directors made similar demands at the Paris event.

Dark comedy Adieu Les Cons (Bye Bye Morons) won best film and six other Césars on the night.

However, cinemas have been shut in France for more than three months.
