WARNING: DO NOT TRY IT THE BRYSON WEIGH AT HOME..
BUTCH HARMON warned amateur golfers: Trying to copy bulked-up Bryson Dechambeau is bad for your health.
The US Open champion tops the PGA Tour driving distance stats after packing on 40lb of muscle.
And the world No.5 (right) claims he reached a ball speed of 211mph on the range earlier this year.
But Harmon reckons the violence of Dechambeau’s revamped swing risks damaging his body – and that of anyone who seeks to imitate him.
The veteran coach said: “I don’t see how your body could hold up swinging that hard.
“The spine is not made for the torque that Bryson puts on his body. It’s amazing.
“My back hurts just watching the guy hit drivers. It’s unbelievable. I don’t know how his left ankle handles It.
“Will the impact on his body shorten his career? In my opinion, yes. This looks to me like a shortterm experiment. ‘How far can I go with this with my body? How far does my body let me do this?’
“Our spines aren’t built for the millions of golf swings these guys make. I ask every orthopaedic surgeon I know that question:
‘Will his body hold up?’. And they all say, ‘no, there’s no way your body can hold up doing this’.
“You have to give kudos to Bryson because he’s won tournaments doing this, he’s proved it works for him.
“But at club level it is going to ruin everyone as they don’t have a body to generate that speed. Amateurs can’t do it.
“The 10 years I was with Tiger Woods, we had that great run.
“He won all those tournaments, eight majors and everybody at my golf school said, ‘I want to swing like Tiger Woods’.
“I’d say, ‘So do I – but I’d have to climb in his body to be able to do it.
“‘Let’s get the best out of what you can do’.”
