HOUSE OF HORRORS

Sally Lindsay’s new drama may be set in a dream home by the sea, but what happens there is a nightmare

- Scott

Monday-thursday, 9pm, Channel 5

For gripping drama full of menace and suspense, don’t miss Channel 5’s new four-part series this week. Intruder is set in a stunning house by the sea in rural Ireland. It is home to the wealthy Sam (Tom Meeten) and Rebecca (Elaine Cassidy), a couple who seem to have it all.

However, the picture they have painted of themselves is shown to be a sham when two teenagers break in. And after family liaison officer Bailey (Sally Lindsay) arrives,

Sam and Rebecca end up embroiled in a shocking scenario of cover-up, corruption and murder.

“Bailey is a character I based on my mum,” reveals Sally. “Her role is a very underrated cog in the police machine. They are the only people who have contact with the families. My mum is a social worker and she used to say when she walked in a room that she knew after five minutes what was going on in that family. It was a sixth sense that these people have.”

While you’ll be gripped by the plot and performances, another crucial element is the fabulous house that forms the backdrop to the drama.

“The house is a sign of their wealth – and it’s kooky,” Sally says. “But then this horrific thing happens, which makes them prisoners. This huge house is like a trap.”

Sally has

20 years of

TV credits behind her and created police procedural drama & Bailey with friend Suranne Jones. But Intruder actually sees her playing a police officer for the first time. “Yeah, 47 and I’ve never been a copper – can you believe that?” asks the actress and writer. “So

I was really chuffed.”

Sally likes the way in which Bailey develops as the story progresses. “She’s this little mousy thing at the start, but then at the end she’s a lion.”
