STEWART RAPS ‘DUMB’SURREY

-

MIDDLESEX’S seamers sparked a shock Surrey collapse as the home side wrapped up a 10-wicket win inside seven sessions at Lord’s.

Resuming on 105-3, Surrey lost their last seven wickets for just 25 runs inside 17 overs.

Ethan Bamber had England opener Rory Burns caught behind from the first ball of the day and the domino effect which followed saw the visitors skittled for just 130 after losing seven wickets in just over an hour.

Bamber, Tim Murtagh and Toby Roland-jones combined to leave Middlesex just 17 to win with Max Holden and Sam Robson knocking them off.

Surrey chief Alec Stewart said: “We all make mistakes, always have and always will. But making the same mistakes over and over – that’s just dumb.”

SOMERSET’S Craig Overton took 5-25 to set up a nine-wicket victory against LEICESTERSHIRE, who were bowled out for 199 in their second innings.

It left Somerset a target of 115, which they rattled off after tea with Tom Lammonby finding some form with an unbeaten 70.

England spinner Dom Bess’ fivewicket haul put YORKSHIRE on top against SUSSEX at Hove.

The home side require 99 more runs but only have four wickets left after

Bess claimed 5-33. Forgotten England batsman Haseeb Hameed made his first ton for NOTTINGHAMSHIRE in their follow-on against

WORCESTERSHIRE – his first century in any form since 2019.

HAMPSHIRE also enforced the follow-on after a dramatic finalsession collapse saw

GLOUCESTERSHIRE dismissed for 320 – spinners Liam Dawson and Mason Crane taking five wickets between them.
