■ THE Premier League will spearhead a co-ordinated blanket social media blackout against the rise in online racial abuse.

The action will ramp up pressure on social media firms – including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – to clean up.

Richard Masters said: “Racist behaviour of any form is unacceptable. The appalling abuse we are seeing players receive on social media platforms cannot be allowed to continue.”
