They made him a jihadi martyr

Terrorist’s jail release blasted

THE jihadi-hunter who first exposed Streatham terrorist Sudesh Amman says authorities “helped him inspire other terrorists” by freeing him.

Dutch blogger Mark van den Berg put the extremist’s warped messages up online after infiltrating his exchanges on Telegram.

That led to Amman being jailed in 2018 for 40 months. But despite police and MI5 warning he was one of the most dangerous terrorists they had ever investigated, he was freed after serving half the sentence.

Just 10 days later, he stole a knife and stabbed two people. Both survived but Amman, 20, was shot dead by surveillance officers. An inquest ruled this week the attack could have been stopped if he had been recalled to prison when authorities watched him buying products for a fake suicide vest.

Mark told the Sunday People: “They did exactly as he wanted – they made him a martyr to inspire other jihadists.

“It’s shocking. Just days later, Islamic State released videos and propaganda showing his attack. He was a hero to them.”

Amman launched his attack in Streatham, South London, in February last year.

His sentencing in December 2018 for 13 terror offences came after the Old Bailey heard of a notebook in which he listed his four “life goals” – including being a martyr and going to Paradise. He also had a stash of manuals on bomb-making, knife-fighting and close combat at his family home in Harrow, North West London.

In online messages with friends, Amman said he wanted to play violent computer game Call of Duty “in real life”.

In one, he says: “Splash splash. Make a kuffar (non-believer) drown in his blood.”

Mark said: “I put the messages online and the police picked it up. He was clearly very dangerous. He was playing people.” The jury ruled Amman had been lawfully killed.
