‘Noni Mad to rejoin Spurs’

- By Simon Mullock

PSV EINDHOVEN have told Tottenham it will cost them £40million to re-sign Noni Madueke – two years after the England Under-21 ace left them for nothing.

Madueke, 19, is wanted back at his old club after a lethal start to the season.

The attacking midfielder scored twice in a 4-0 romp for PSV against Ajax in the Johan Cruyff Shield and has been on target three more times in six games.

Ten clubs have made contact about Madueke’s availability – including Spurs, Leicester and Wolves.

And they have all been told that the bidding will have to start at £40m.

Barnet-born Madueke made his debut for Tottenham Under-18s when he was still a schoolboy.

But he left for a threeyear contract with PSV in 2018 over worries about first-team opportunities – and his progress has been spectacular.

Madueke has represented England at every level from Under-16 to Under-21.

PSV boss Roger Schmidt is desperate to keep hold of the youngster.

And former Holland star and youth coach Gerald Vanenburg said: “Madueke is a very intelligent player.

“He is making massive steps forward in his development.

“He is a star player in every big game and he has a huge advantage already on his English fellow players in the same age group.

“It was a massively brave decision to leave Tottenham so early and follow his own path.

“I love watching him. He is physically strong, he can score goals, he can cross the ball brilliantly and he terrorises every defence.

Class

“He can become a topclass player in Europe. The best one to compare him with is Kylian Mbappe.

“He has the same drive, pace and scoring ability. All the big clubs love players like that.

“Madueke would be daft to move to a big club right now. In Holland he is playing every week and can play in the Champions League with PSV.

“If he moves to a big European club now, he could be on the bench half of the time. This kid needs to play.”
