Flash Godden to the rescue

- HECTOR NUNNS

By at the Coventry Building Society Arena

MARK ROBINS acknowledged that Coventry’s last-gasp home wins are putting him through the wringer this season – and he’s keeping a wary eye on his heart rate.

The Sky Blues pulled off another dramatic come-frombehind home victory with subs Jamie Allen and Matty Godden grabbing the goals – the winner coming in the 98th minute.

That eclipsed even the first Championship game at the CBS Arena this season against Nottingham Forest when Kyle Mcfadzean sealed another thriller... on 96 minutes.

Reading scored against the run of play in the 40th minute, John Swift earning a soft penalty and tucking away the spotkick himself.

But Allen, who like Godden came on just after the hour, levelled with a 20-yard effort before the thrilling climax that left the Royals on their knees.

Robins said: “It was another late, late winner. I don’t mind it, but I might be going to have a check-up on the club’s ECG machine and see how I’m going. At least we have that equipment.”

Reading looked nothing like last season’s promotion challengers and boss Veljko Paunovic was unhappy that six added minutes became eight – although much of that was added by Reading timewasting when they led.

He said: “The referee has added extra-time onto the extra-time – but we have to deal with that. Unfortunately in the very last seconds we crumbled and conceded a goal. Our chance of a point vanished.”
