Wall’s not for falling

- By RON LEWIS at the Den

GARY ROWETT hailed Jed Wallace as his “game-changer” after he scored one and made another to fire Millwall to their first league win of the season.

Jake Cooper finally broke Blackpool’s resistance as he headed home

Wallace’s cross in the 90th minute – after the visitors had played for 75 minutes a man down after Callum Connolly’s early red card.

Shayne Lavery gave Blackpool a second-half lead but Wallace’sr freekick and Cooper’s late header won it.

“Jed was a game-changer,” Millwall boss Rowett (above) said. “You look for your big players to come up with moments and he has done it so often for us.

“It was a wonderful, wonderful freekick under pressure, a great way to equalise and then it was Jed again, spins and whips a ball into the box and we had two or three lined up.”

“It felt like today was sort of a must-win game. I did say to the players can we not have any more games like that as I felt I was going to have a heart attack at one point.”

Connolly received a straight red in the 15th minute after hauling down Benik Afobe as he ran through on goal.

But the home side struggled to capitalise and it was Blackpool who went ahead in the 56th minute.

Josh Bowler ran through the Millwall midfield and slipped the ball to Lavery. Lions keeper Bartosz Bialkowski fumbled and Lavery slotted home.

Wallace levelled as he curled a freekick into the top corner from 25 yards.

But as Millwall pushed forward, Wallace picked out Cooper to score.
