Can you crack the Son of Tough Nut?

WIN £1,000

- By The Puzzler

IN the long, hot summer of 2013 we unleashed the world’s hardest sudoku, known simply as the Tough Nut.

Many tried to crack the perplexing puzzle. Most failed.

Now, after years of toil we are ready to unleash a new challenge on the world.

We present: Son of Tough Nut – and it comes with a £1,000 prize.

Experts believe this is the most fiendish sudoku the world has ever seen.

Puzzles guru Dr Gareth Moore, who runs www.puzzlemix.com, said: “No one will believe it’s solvable, with just three given numbers – but it is! And what’s more, you don’t need to guess – it can be done with step-by-step logic.”

Extra rules have been added to the puzzle to make it even harder – but here, if you dare to take on the challenge, is how to play:

Place a digit from 1 to 9 into each empty square. No digit repeats in any row, column or bold-lined 3x3 box

Touching squares (left/right/up/down) cannot contain consecutive digits such as 1 and 2, or 7 and 8. Diagonally touching squares cannot contain the same digit

Squares a chess knight’s move away cannot contain the same digit – meaning that any pair of squares that are two squares vertically and one square horizontally, or two squares horizontally and one square vertically, from one another cannot contain the same digit. This is without a doubt the hardest sudoku ever devised, but those who solve it have a shot at that £1,000.
