Edu’s two much of a soft Tuch

-

Lanzini scored the Hammers’ first goal after an error by Jorginho and was then beaten by a freak, late effort from Arthur Masuaku at his near post for their third.

German Tuchel admitted: “The performance is enough to even win the game, but what we clearly see is that we give away easy goals.

“This is really unusual. We make big mistakes that make big chances and we have done this now in three matchdays – Manchester United, Watford and here.

“If you do this at this level, you cannot expect to get a result.

“Edu is going through a rough period, don’t know why exactly – it seems he has lost a bit of confidence.

“OK, decision-making was not at the highest level here at the first goal but we also bring him into an awkward situation. He could have saved the situation but he did not.

“We are far, far away from blaming anybody but we need to admit we are making too many crucial mistakes at the moment, which cost us against United and in this game.”

Masuaku’s goal was his first in the Premier League – but asked if he meant it, jubilant Hammers manager David Moyes joked: “It was a great cross. But you have to get the ball in the box, you have to try it.

“We have to say it’s a bit of a lucky goal but in midweek we had a goal and VAR went against us and I still can’t see why it was ruled out, so you have to take what you can get.”

Moyes’ side had already beaten Liverpool at home this season and can now add the European champions to their list of high-profile scalps.

“I think we played better against Liverpool than today. I think we can play much better than we did,” said Moyes.

“I thought Chelsea played well but our character gave us a chance.”
