Rose West, we can reveal. She will serve her sentence on the Willow House wing of New Hall prison near Wakefield, West Yorks.

Smith, from nearby Keighley, has a single cell to herself but will eat in the wing’s dining area and shower in a communal block, a source said.

They told the Sunday People: “She’s a marked woman and it won’t be long before someone gets to her. She’s on the lifers’ wing so there are plenty of women with very little to lose who will attack her for the price of a few chocolate bars or toiletries.”

Grandad David, a postman who is the long-term partner of Smith’s grandmother Anita, plans to visit her in jail after Christmas but admits their contact has caused conflict. “The family are torn,” he said. “I’m also getting a lot of grief from members of the family so I have to run that gauntlet a bit.

“We were always close, like father and daughter. It’s like losing two of them – Star and Frankie. Up until 18 Frankie was brilliant. She lived with us for two years, Anita taught her to cook – we never had an argument.

“When Savannah came along everything changed. She got into Frankie’s head and turned her into this vile nasty person. It’s awful.”

David, of Baildon,

West Yorks, spoke to the Sunday People on

Friday, a year to the day after

Star’s funeral.

He recalled: “It was a beautiful day for baby Star, clear blue sky.

“Because of Covid restrictions we could only have 15 there for the service, but more were allowed around the grave and we had flowers and balloons.

“The three hardest things in my life were when we heard she was killed, when I had to carry her coffin into the funeral service and going through the court side of things. Last Christmas was the first without Star and it was

really sad. This year is going to be exactly the same. It will take a long time to get over it.”

David and Anita visited a Christmas tree in Keighley where a star bearing the tot’s name has been placed.

A sleigh is due to pass near their home with a giant star on the back in tribute to her this afternoon.

David hopes to fit her grave with a star-shaped headstone, adding: “That will be a special moment.”
