Leeds hit by yet another brutal blow

-

week for Leeds where they have shipped 11 goals.

Such was Arsenal’s dominance they had 11 shots on target in the first half – the most on record (since 2003-04) of any side in the opening 45 minutes in a single match in the Premier League.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was just relieved to play the game and he said: “We were really lucky to play today with everything that’s happening.

“I told the players to enjoy the game and give everything because I don’t know how this will develop.

“The Premier League will make the best decision for everybody. We want to play all under the same rules.”

Tomorrow afternoon, the 20 Premier League clubs will meet to discuss how best to address the crisis. And later in the week, the managers and captains of all top-flight clubs will have a meeting of their own to discuss the situation further.

Much of the blame for the positive tests is being laid at the door of unvaccinated players, with only 68 per cent having had two doses according to the last figures released by the league in October.

Villa returned more positive tests yesterday morning and submitted a request to have their game postponed to the Premier League board around 10am.

The board then spent two hours verifying Villa’s medical information and the decision was made around noon before being made public shortly before 12.45pm.

Villa apologised to Burnley and their fans but said they acted as swiftly as possible to “minimise disruption”.

The Premier League are investigating an allegation of racism from the Leeds fans directed towards the Arsenal bench and at one of the Gunners’ subs.
