BEN DREAMS OF ROVERS IN PREM

- By NEIL GOULDING

GOAL MACHINE Ben Brereton Diaz wants to fire Blackburn Rovers back to the promised land.

The Chile international has picked up the scoring slack after striker Adam Armstrong moved to Southampton in the summer and Harvey Elliott returned to parent club Liverpool.

Brereton Diaz bagged an impressive 20th goal of the campaign as Rovers beat struggling Barnsley in midweek to secure a sixth straight win.

That victory saw them go level on points with secondplaced Fulham, who are faltering amid a five-match winless streak.

“I feel really good and want to keep scoring for Rovers,” said the 22-yearold. “It’s an amazing moment and I’m really happy with it. I set targets before the beginning of the season, but I wasn’t really thinking about 20 goals at all.

“I wanted a good season and to get some goals here and there. I would never have imagined it would go this well.”

And Rovers, who host Huddersfield today, have the perfect chance to break into the top two

In the tight games it’s the fans we need behind us to get us over the line. They hold the key to our hopes of promotion this season after rivals Fulham’s game at Swansea City was postponed due to the current Covid chaos affecting the fixture list.

Tony Mowbray’s side are desperate to return to the promised land of the Premier League after a decade in the wilderness.

And the Blackburn boss (below) hopes the club’s loyal supporters can play their part in the promotion push.

“Our hope is that we can keep going and that the fans can keep helping us over the line in the tight games,” said Mowbray, whose side travel to Wigan next Saturday in the FA Cup third round.

“Let’s hope that continues throughout the season and that we can continue winning.”
