After Extra-time By RICHARD LATHAM at Ashton Gate

-

MARCO SILVA admitted this FA Cup success would make an already hectic Fulham fixture schedule even tougher.

But after seeing Harry Wilson’s extra-time strike sink battling Bristol City, the Cottagers boss (above) pledged to give the competition full respect as it progresses.

Silva said: “It was too long since we had played because of postponements that were not our fault, and we already knew the number of games still to play this season would test us.

“Now we have another league game to rearrange because of this win.

“But it won’t change our approach to the FA Cup or our aim to win every match.

“I grew up watching the competition on television with my father and it means a lot to me, so we want to go as far as possible.

“Some players showed signs of tiredness as the game progressed today. But Harry’s goal will boost his confidence and we accomplished our objective to reach round four.”

Wilson’s intended inswinging cross from the right – just before the interval in extra time – eluded everyone with the ball eventually nestling just inside the far post. It was rough justice on the Robins, who paid dearly for missing some great chances.

Chris Martin, Callum O’dowda and substitute Tommy Conway were the main culprits and, in the end, the strength of Fulham’s bench saw them through.

Silva was able to throw on Aleksandar Mitrovic, Neeskens Kebano, Harrison Reed and Tom Cairney, in addition to Wilson, who replaced Nathaniel Chalobah for the start of extra time.

City boss Nigel Pearson said; “I couldn’t have asked for more from them. We could have been more ruthless in front of goal, but the application was as I expect.”
