Myler full of Rhinos optimism
LEEDS star Richie Myler has given up on The Good Life but is happier than ever.
Myler and TV star wife Helen Skelton launched into an experiment to become self-sufficient during the Covid pandemic
It was an adventure on the lines of the 1970s sitcom starring Felicity Kendall, that helped them through the various lockdowns.
But the Rhinos full-back says his determination to succeed with Leeds, plus a hectic home life, has put a stop to it.
He said: “It did give me a new appreciation for gardening and growing things but it was a lot harder work than I thought.
“Helen came home one day and I had a JCB in the garden and had dug it all up and flattened it.
“We’re putting a house on it instead now – so the
environmentalist in me has definitely gone.”
Skelton gave birth to their third child a couple of weeks ago and Myler admits his life is now blissful but exhausting.
He said: “I don’t know my backside from my elbow at the moment because of the lack of sleep.
“I’m loving it but going to work is like a breeze because it’s peaceful there.
“I’ve been laughing with the boys and saying my days at work are going to become longer, from 7 ’til 7 so I can have a sleep.”
Leeds play a friendly against Featherstone today ahead of their opening Super League match against Warrington on February 12.
Myler feels the Rhinos are primed for a big campaign.
High performance director Richard Hunwicks has returned to the club after his time at Catalans Dragons and Myler said: “He’s brilliant.
“He’s a bit of a nerd, but he’s given everyone a new lease of life. Pre-season has been a breath of fresh air.”
Star signings Aidan Sezer and Blake Austin will be firstchoice pair at half-back, with 31-year-old Myler facing a fight with fit-again Jack Walker at full-back.
Myler added: “When you get older you realise that it takes all of you to achieve things. I’m in good nick.”
