Mow’s left sick by Vik

- Dack Wharton

46,

TONY MOWBRAY did not enjoy his 99 as Blackburn threw away two precious points in their push for a play-off spot.

Having solved their goals problem away from home, Rovers allowed Viktor Gyokeres to equalise in the 99th minute.

But with referee Peter Bankes only adding on six minutes at first, Blackburn boss Mowbray was furious at how they carried on.

“I’m bemused by the time that was added on,” he said. “My analyst told me 10 minutes 24 seconds was played when six went up and how on earth they got six, I’ll never know. We were let down by the officials.”

The draw kept Blackburn in sixth place, but all the teams below them play games in hand in midweek.

Their afternoon had begun badly as Harry Pickering put through his own net after eight minutes as he tried to stop Callum O’hare’s run through on goal. The home side were on top and Brazilian midfielder Gustavo Hamer was unlucky to see his curling 25-yard strike hit the outside of the post then he had a free-kick saved by Thomas Kaminski.

Mowbray brought on talisman Bradley Dack and leading scorer Ben

Brereton Diaz in a double half-time change.

And their impact was immediate as Dack headed in from John Buckley’s cross with his first touch 15 seconds after the break.

Having battled back from a second cruciate ligament injury, it was Dack’s first goal for 389 days, and his 50th for Blackburn.

It also ended a dire run of seven away games without a goal for Rovers stretching back to January 15. With momentum now on their side, Scott Wharton looked to have won it as he headed home from Joe Rothwell’s out-swinging corner.

Yet with the clock ticking, Gyokeres headed in from Fankaty Dabo’s cross, much to the relief of Sky Blues boss Mark Robins, whose side remain six points off the top six.

Robins said: “We played brilliantly in the first-half and in the second-half their changes meant the intensity changed in that instant. You’ve got to be able to live with it and we didn’t.”
