FRANK: TOP 10 FINISH WOULD BEE MASSIVE

- Dan Bennett

BRENTFORD boss Thomas Frank reckons a top-half finish for his side would be one of the greatest achievements in football over the past 10 years.

The Bees have the opportunity to move into the top 10 this afternoon, but must beat relegation-threatened Leeds and hope Brighton lose to West Ham.

Frank said: “It’s difficult to compare, of course, to winning championships, like what Eintracht Frankfurt did or Rangers if they’d won.

“I don’t know the stats, that’s one thing. But coming through the play-offs, being the smallest club with the lowest budget in the Premier League, no experience with staff or players, it’s up there with one of the biggest achievements, definitely.”

Leeds go into the game at the Brentford Community Stadium in the bottom three and will need to better Burnley’s result in order to stay up. The Yorkshire outfit finished ninth in their first season in the Premier League, but have struggled this time.

However, Frank (right) insists there is no substance to so-called ‘second-season syndrome’. And he backed his players to avoid a similar fate, as the Bees look ahead to a second year in the top flight.

“It’s a narrative I don’t believe that much in,” he said. “I’m hugely respectful of this league. I think we can achieve new,

great things next season. I think we can get relegated. There’s a chance or a risk, depending on how you see it, for both.

“But, if I look at the performances we’ve put in this term and where we are, we’re finishing top 10, 11th or 12th, or something like that, it’s fantastic.

“The performances have been very good. All the stats back up that it is not luck this season, so why is it that we shouldn’t be able to do this next year?

“Are we keeping all the players, including Christian Eriksen? Hopefully, yes. Are we going to sign some good players? Hopefully, yes.

“I’m confident we can do something good next year.”
