Kane gang puts Gers to the sword
HARRY KANE put on a masterclass in finishing yesterday with a double to help Tottenham beat Rangers
2-1 in their pre-season friendly.
Home keeper Allan Mcgregor, continuing to belie his 40 years, denied Kane in the first half while pulling off a host of outstanding saves from a raft of Spurs stars.
However, there was no stopping Kane when he found his range twice in a five-minute interval in the second period.
And the England skipper delivered the kind of finishes that shouted top-level credentials from the rooftops to cancel out Antonio Colak’s 24th-minute opener for the Scottish side.
Kane and his team-mates were presented with the Tull trophy – named in honour of the first black professional UK outfield player who represented both clubs.
But Spurs’ chance of collecting more meaningful silverware later in the season would hinge on keeping Kane, who was given a standing ovation by the Ibrox crowd when replaced in the 70th minute in appreciation of his quality.
Wilfried Zaha (right), who was forced to sit out Crystal Palace’s tour of the US, scored twice in his side’s 3-0 victory at QPR.
Former Rangers favourite Eberechi Eze was also on target at Loftus Road.
Tomas Soucek scored his second goal in as many pre-season matches as West Ham drew 1-1 at Luton Town.
The Czech Republic midfielder powered into the box to head home an Aaron Cresswell cross.
The Hammers should have been out of sight before Sonny Bradley’s last-gasp leveller for the Championship club.
Pascal Gross and Solly March were on target as Brighton edged out Reading 2-1 while Southampton and Watford ended goaless.
Leicester fielded two teams – and won both games. Jamie Vardy netted as the Foxes beat Preston 2-1 as another side beat Derby 3-1.
Bournemouth slipped up at home against Bristol City after a penalty from Chris Martin.
Fellow Premier League new boys Nottingham Forest also lost 1-0 against German side Union Berlin, while Bundesliga club Wolfsburg thumped Brentford 4-0.
