Raise a big Glas to Klopp

- By Nathan Edwards

OLIVER GLASNER is ready to spoil Jurgen Klopp’s farewell tour, even if the Liverpool boss is a standard bearer for Bundesliga coaches.

Similarly to Klopp, Austrian Glasner has found himself managing in England with Palace after multiple successful seasons in Germany.

The departing Kop boss was one of the first coaches to make the step from the Bundesliga to the Premier League, and since his arrival on Merseyside in 2015, it has become a welltrodden path.

Daniel Farke, David Wagner, Jesse Marsch and now Glasner.

The Eagles chief, who had spells with Frankfurt and Wolfsburg, said: “Jurgen is an inspiration for many German-speaking coaches. At the time he was performing at Borussia Dortmund so well and showed a new style of play.

“It was very aggressive and it was new when I was coming to the end of my career as a player.

“He had a lot of influence on my sights to the game, and still has.

“His authenticity, it seems that whatever he says people believe in him, and this is his personality – it shows what a great manager and human he is.”

The 49-year-old Glasner is boosted today by the chance of Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze playing together for the first time since he took over in February.

With interest high in both players, it could be an even rarer sight come next season.

Glasner added: “I don’t know if they will start together, but it will be good to always have our players back together.

“Michael has shown that he can play inside as well as be able to dribble inside and he can be in the box when we are attacking on the other side.

“He has a natural feeling where he can be dangerous and this is what we want to use for us. But he cannot do whatever he wants as he is part of the structure of the team.”
