Corberan slams his silly boys

- DECISIVE STRIKE: Ekwah By IAN BAKER

CARLOS CORBERAN called for his West Brom players to learn after Brandon Thomasasante’s daft red card hit their play-offs bid.

The Albion striker was dismissed two minutes before the break for two silly yellow cards in two minutes.

And Sunderland took full advantage with Pierre Ekwah’s goal in first-half stoppage time giving them only a second win in 12 games.

For West Brom this ended a 10-match unbeaten run, with a first red card of Corberan’s Baggies reign upsetting the Spaniard.

He said: “Without doubt it is a lesson for him and a lesson for the team.

“Brandon knows his mistake but I want to talk to him about the circumstances.

“We need to take responsibility.”

Alex Mowatt, Grady Diangana and Darnell Furlong had all gone close early for the Baggies.

But the sending off – following Thomas-asante’s challenges on Jack Clarke and then Dan Ballard – changed the complexion of the game.

Sunderland snatched the lead as Ekwah volleyed in Callum Styles’ corner.

The home crowd targeted Ballard from the off after he injured Josh Maja during the reverse fixture.

But Ballard had the last laugh at full-time.

Interim Sunderland boss Mike Dodds said: “I was surprised with their fans. And maybe it gave us extra motivation.

“I’ve seen it before with this group – they like to stick up for each other.”
