SMASH AND GRAB PRAT!

- By IAN WHITTELL

BURNLEY could find themselves in a stew if boss Sean Dyche does not add more firepower to his side after this Lancashire hotpot failed to sizzle.

The Clarets flogged last season’s top scorer Charlie Austin to Championship rivals QPR for £ 4million last week – and the striker’s poaching qualities are already being sorely missed at Turf Moor.

Dyche’s side played plenty of tasty football but need someone who can provide more choice cuts to finish off their neat passing play.

Sam Vokes and Danny Ings carried only a sporadic attacking threat, although the latter was unfortunate to see the opener harshly marked down as a David Wheater ( below) own goal.

Bolton enjoyed the greater of the chances after Burnley took the lead in the 26th minute and Darren Pratley bagged a deserved equaliser 11 minutes later when he finished off a clever move.

Teasing

Dyche handed debuts to goalkeeper Tom Heaton and midfielder David Jones, while Bolton boss Dougie Freedman’s starting line- up included three new signings.

Jermaine Beckford started up front, with full- backs Alex Baptiste and Marc Tierney in a new- look backline.

Bolton keeper Adam Bogdan had to have his wits about him to save a 30- yard drive from Kieran Trippier.

The Trotters’ first meaningful attempt came when Sierra Leone midfielder Medo Kamara whistled a shot over the bar.

Burnley’s quick passing carved out a chance on 20 minutes when Trippier’s teasing cross from the right found Ings but he scuffed his shot wide of the post.

Ings played a huge part in Burnley’s opening goal when he got on the end of Vokes’ flick from a long ball.

Ings outpaced Wheater and saw his attempt bobble off the Bolton centre- back past Bogdan and into the corner of the net.

Bolton got back on level terms following an intricate passing move.

Blast

Chris Eagles cut a return pass back to Pratley and he rifled a low shot into the corner of the net.

Both sides huffed and puffed in the second half and Junior Stanislas saw his curling free- kick parried by Bogdan.

Stanislas then blasted an effort high into the stands when the ball fell to him on the edge of the box from a corner.

Bolton flickered into life with 10 minutes remaining and substitute Craig Davies forced a fine diving save out of Heaton with a stinging long- range shot.

Kamara also lashed one wide from range as both sides settled for a point.
