CLOUGH RELYING ON WILL POWER

-

DERBY boss Nigel Clough reckons Will Hughes will get even better this season – even though the rest of the Championshop now know all about him.

The midfield ace, 18, emerged from nowhere last term and attracted interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Barcelona.

But Clough will resist the temptation to sell the £ 8million- rated whizz- kid and insists Hughes will stay put for now.

“People will know all about him – but knowing what he’s about and stopping him are two different things,” said Clough.

“He is as intelligent and level- headed as you will get. I chat with him on a regular basis and the other players won’t let him get above himself.

“We think he’ll be better off here. And he agrees.

“He can help us achieve top six and that’s the aim – to keep him around.”

Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer has also sent out a chilling warning – Jordan Rhodes will keep banging in the goals.

Rhodes, 23, netted 28 times last season in a turbulent campaign that saw three managers leave the club amid backroom chaos.

But Bowyer is predicting the £ 8m signing will break records this season.

He said: “I hope he does even better now it is calmer here.

“He has fantastic ability with being able to put the ball in the net and his goals last year speak volumes for him.

“What we are trying to do this season is produce more opportunities for him.”
