KANE: I’VE

- By JON WEST

STRIKING OUT FOR GLORY: Kane was at Wembley as a fan when Spurs last won silverware

( inset) in 2008 HARRY KANE admits he has already been day- dreaming about beating Chelsea and lifting the Capital One Cup.

At just 21, the Tottenham striker is the hottest young English player in the game right now – and the man most likely to hurt the Premier League leaders at Wembley.

Kane was at the national stadium the last time Spurs lifted a trophy – the same competition back in 2008.

On that celebratory occasion the final was also against Chelsea and the young Kane, then 13, loved every minute. He said: “I was there as a fan with the family and it was a great day out to see them lift the trophy. It is something I INSPIRATION:

David Beckham have been thinking about this week, hoping that I will be up there lifting the trophy.

“That would be something special. I am really looking forward to it.

“I was just a fan watching players, like Robbie Keane for instance. I loved watching him in the final.

“I trained with Robbie and played with him. He scored a lot of goals and he was great to me and I learned a lot from him, especially in training.

Adored

“Jermain Defoe was a huge influence in my career as well. Both are world- class players.”

Another inspiration to the young Kane was former England skipper David Beckham.

Kane went to the same school as Becks – Chingford Foundation School – and also played for his old junior club Ridgeway Rovers.

“Beckham was a big inspiration to me growing up. He was a player that I adored,” said Kane.

“He launched his academy at the 02 Arena and I got to meet him there. I also got to meet him when he came to train at Spurs, which was great for me.

“He is obviously a world- class player who has done a lot for this game and a lot for this country.

“I spoke with him when he was at Tottenham, and just having a little chat with him was enough for me. Just to be talking to him.

“He was great in training when he came here, he was a true professional. Hopefully, I can meet him again one day.”

Kane looks set to emulate Beckham by graduating to the England set- up and it would be a big surprise if Roy Hodgson didn’t pick him for the next squad.

Spurs go into the final having been knocked out of the Europa League by Serie A side Fiorentina on Thursday night.

That was a double blow for the club, as the competition winners qualify for the Champions League.

Spurs are still in the mix for a top- four finish, but have a history of being squeezed out on that score.

Nevertheless, Kane declared he was happy to stay with Spurs and keep on trying to earn a crack at Europe’s elite teams.

He added: If I am at Tottenham in 10 years’ time and still playing, I would be very proud and very honoured.

“I love playing here. I love every minute of it, and hopefully I can continue it for years to come.”
