MEET THE SPICE GIRLS SUPPORT BAND
AS GIRL POWER LEGENDS ANNOUNCE WORLD TOUR…
WHEN they burst onto the scene in 1996 with debut single Wannabe the Spice Girls were the hottest new thing in pop.
Now, 22 years later, the girls are set to re- form for a worldwide tour.
But, a generation on, the girls are not quite as bouncy as they used to be.
With a combined age of 216 and all now middle- aged mothers, the worry is that the Spice Girls may look more like the Old Spice Girls when they take to the stage.
Especially if whoever is supporting them on tour are younger and more lithe.
So meet The Crinkettes – believed to be in line to support the Spices on part of their forthcoming tour.
A source close to the band said: “If the Spice Girls had a group like Little Mix supporting them, they’d look like a right bunch of old hags in comparison.
Youthful
“So they’re thinking about having an OAP support act, who they’ll look youthful in comparison to.
“It sounds a bit cynical and calculating but, hey, that’s the whole ethos of the Spice Girls, isn’t it?”
The only potential problem is the huge combined age of The Crinkettes.
The group’s oldest member is Elsie Partgeter, who is 82 and walks with a stick.
There are also concerns that band member Queenie Shaw is forgetful, while the third of the trio, 71- year- old Dot Proops, has been under the doctor for three weeks.
Meanwhile, it was reported last week that Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham, and Ginger Spice, Geri Horner, are in a “battle for control of the Spice Girls” ahead of the band’s reunion tour.
The two members are desperate to take the lead on the girl band’s reunion tour, which will see them perform in the UK and America.
A source close to the band told Sunday Sport: “Geri would like to be a dominant voice, but because Victoria was so reluctant to reunite, the power balance is shifted in her favour.
“All five ladies want this to run as smoothly as possible, but there is mounting tension because the ball is in Victoria’s court.
Strain
“Victoria being in the driving seat is already causing a strain between some of the other girls.
“The road ahead could get very bumpy indeed…”
