Treble double for Celtic after sinking Well

-

CELTIC made history by clinching their second treble at Hampden Park.

The Premiership champions won the Scottish Cup to become the first team to scoop all three domestic honours for two seasons running.

Motherwell were no match for Brendan Rodgers’ men and went behind just 11 minutes in to a Callum McGregor screamer.

And they could start putting the green ribbons on the trophy when Olivier Ntcham made it 2-0 before the half-hour mark.

The opening goal was good enough for any stage. The Motherwell defence didn’t clear a Mikael Lustig cross and it fell to McGregor on the edge of the box.

Finish

He trapped the ball before belting it past Trevor Carson and into the top corner. They almost got another on 15 minutes. Kieran Tierney teed up Moussa Dembele but he couldn’t keep his shot down.

And it was no surprise when the second did come. Dembele caused problems in the Motherwell box and he played the ball to Ntcham for a calm, low finish into the bottom corner.

Rogic brought a save from Carson as Well clung on heading into the break.

Craig Gordon saw his first serious action after

TOP BOSS: Rodgers the restart. Motherwell hitman Curtis Main held up the ball before firing at goal. It took a sharp tip over the bar to keep it out.

Then Allan Campbell had a pop from long range that Gordon got behind.

That seemed to wake Celtic up. James Forrest found Tierney in space and his crisp cross was almost turned in by Dembele.

The striker had another chance minutes later but he pinged his shot the wrong side of the post.

It was all Celtic heading into the final 20 minutes. Carson was at his best to keep out two rapid efforts by Dembele as he continued to rip through their defence at will.

Motherwell almost got back into it with 11 minutes to go. Dedryck Boyata dragged down Chris Cadden on the edge of the box. Sub Gael Bigrimana stepped up to strike the free- kick from the edge of the box.

He curled the ball over the wall only for it to cannon into the crossbar and bounce to safety.
