OUTRAGE OVER DOUBLE CHEESE BURKA CRAZE
THE argument over Islamic veils took a bizarre new twist last week when a new craze emerged ... for the Double Cheese- BURKA!
The fad involves jokers taking a wrapper from the popular McDonalds Double Cheeseburger and fashioning it into a face- covering by tearing out a narrow eye slit.
Pranksters have been posing in the greasy garb online and experts are now trying to work out if it is racist or blasphemous.
One commentator, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, explained: “Whatever it is, it’s taking the piss out of someone or something.
“And when they work out who ought to be offended, expect all hell to break loose.”
A source at one McDonald’s restaurant said: “This is absolutely NOT something we are encouraging. Christ no! Oh my God… please make that clear.
“It’s NOTHING to do with us.”
Ban
The fast food japery comes hard on the heels of the former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson describing women in traditional Arabian dress as looking like letter boxes or bank robbers.
Yet he was arguing AGAINST a ban on the burka – a one- piece veil that covers the face and body, often leaving just a slit to see through.
Some scholars argue that the various veils worn by Muslim women are a cultural tradition and not prescribed by the Islamic holy book, the Koran.
