AT a cool £ 183, the Manchester United replica home kit is not cheap.

But that’s no comfort to Tonya Grant – as her 10- year- old son Tyrone wanted the full kit, no matter what the cost.

Unable to raise the necessary cash ahead of the start of the season, Tonya, 38, resorted to desperate measures.

A court heard that a “clearly intoxicated” Tonya was caught on CCTV stumbling into a sports shop in Luton, Beds, which cannot be named for legal reasons.

Footage shows her “acting suspiciously” and attempting to stuff a football kit into an Aldi shopping bag but repeatedly dropping the carrier due to her drunkenness.

She then appears to spot the security camera and puts the kit back on the rail.

The court was told that Tonya then went to an 18- year- old staff member and offered sex in return for him letting her take the Manchester United kit for free.

Defending, Linda French- Hart, said: “My client was acting out of character due to a combination of alcohol and extreme domestic stress. She is ashamed and remorseful.”

Tonya, who pleaded guilty to being drunk in public, soliciting and criminal damage, was given six weeks in prison, suspended for two years and ordered to pay £ 250 costs at a Bedfordshire court.
