BRITISH LIFE EXPECTANCY WILL PLUMMET TO 42 AFTER ‘NO DEAL’ BREXIT

-

LIFE expectancy in Britain will plunge to “mid- nineteenth century” levels if Britain leaves the European Union without a deal, a shock new survey has discovered.

Using analytical computer models, factoring in all the woes that will befall the UK if PM Theresa May’s negotiations fail and it crashes out of the EU without agreement on future trade, respected researchers have predicted a bleak future.

Male life expectancy, currently averaging 79 years will plummet to just 42. Women, who at the moment can expect to live to 83, will snuff it at 45.

Last week, latest official figures showed that UK expectancy had flatlined.

Professor Dale Higgins, director of the EU- funded Population Research Working Party, shuddered: “These figures make chilling reading and the likes of Jacob Rees- Mogg, who has repeatedly stated that a ‘ no deal’ Brexit would not be too bad, should read this report and weep.”

Prof Higgins says the first hit to life expectancy will be “unprecedented civil unrest” directly post- Brexit.

He warned: “The prospect of waiting an extra couple of minutes at passport control in Spain will cause a tsunami of anger in Britain which will lead to widespread rioting, panic- buying and civil strife.

“The deaths in that unrest, and the model predicts mountains of body bags, will lead to a massive downward shift in life expectancy.”

Prof Harris also says that in the longer term, an EU trade embargo – supported by warships from Germany, Holland and France – would lead to mass starvation.

He said: “Currently, we import 80 per cent of our food. The blockade would stop all of that. We would be on 20 per CORPSE BLIMEY: If Theresa May fails to make a deal with the EU we’ll all die young, say boffins cent rations.

“The entire population would be forced to eat as little as Posh Spice. The average weight of the British person would collapse. Jamie Oliver’s ‘ obesity crisis’ would be solved overnight.”

The professor said there were other, more sinister, factors in play.

He said: “Outside Europe, we would not be protected by the European Union’s asteroid protection defences.

“Any huge space rock hurtling towards the EU would bounce off the shield and be deflected, inevitably, towards a major British built- up area such as London, Birmingham or even Crewe.”

He added: “There are a million other factors in play. Without the Spanish fishing fleet hoovering up all the fish in UK waters, it would be a matter of weeks before the seas around the UK were boiling with man- eating sharks.

“Even going for a paddle in Blackpool would be a potentially life- shortening experience.”

Professor Higgins’ predictions are even bleaker than those of Mark Carney earlier this month.

The Bank of England’s governor warned the Cabinet that a chaotic no- deal Brexit could crash house prices and send another financial shock through the economy.

Mr Carney met senior ministers on Thursday to discuss the risks of a disorderly exit from the EU.

His worst- case scenario was that house prices could fall as much as 35 per cent over three years.

The warning echoes some of the Bank’s previous comments.

The Bank of England routinely carries out “stress tests” to check whether the banking system can withstand extreme financial shocks.

Its latest one was conducted in November, when it said a 33 per cent fall in house prices could occur.

Several reports said that the Bank governor also told the Downing Street meeting that mortgage rates could spiral, the pound could fall swiftly and inflation would rise, and countless homeowners could be left in negative equity.

But Prof Higgins says Mr Carney’s forecasts are “woefully optimistic”.

He warned: “The moment we leave the EU, European building regulations will no longer apply. The result will be houses falling down by the thousand.

“Never mind a 33 or 35 per cent fall in its value, when we leave the EU, your house will be worth precisely nothing.”
