STREET FOOD: The Caldwells’ van investigation, the infected meat was traced back to Peter and Alan’s mobile burger van in London.

And when inspectors tested the burger patties in their freezer, they found a combination of 11 different animals – including badgers, foxes, hedgehogs and voles.

A Trading Standards source said: “Basically, these two men took meat from roadkill and, no matter what the animal was, they would mince it up.

“People were told they were getting prime organic beef. Instead, they got rotten fox and badger.

“It’s fine if you want to eat ROTTEN BUSINESS: Peter and Alan Caldwell made customer ill dead hedgehogs, dogs and badgers, but you shouldn’t be served it when you’re expecting beef.”

The source added: “The Caldwells were pathological about it. No carcass was wasted.

“They even scooped up voles and they only weigh about an ounce.

“It’s no wonder someone fell ill. that

“There’s no approved hygiene processes for dead wild animals scraped off a road.

“Badgers especially are dangerous because they carry the trichinella virus, which can be deadly in humans.

“Thankfully, they were caught and now they face proper justice.”

The two men admitted conspiracy to sell unfit meat at London magistrates court and will be sentenced next month.
